Seen It: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

This movie was an unexpected pickup on a bad day and I honestly needed a movie to make me laugh. As far as that’s concerned, it was an excellent choice for a laugh. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked it up other than it was a comedy. With that, I wasn’t disappointed. Turned off my brain for a bit and just enjoyed it.

The female casting was great for this movie. Mainly Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza, since they were what really made this movie funny. Which may be why some people have a problem with the movie. The female cast was hilarious and the female cast was overbearing and took away from some of the funny moments by being too much. Honestly, I don’t think it would have mattered who was casted as the main male characters. Zac Efron and Adam Devine were fine. Not great. Just fine. They were simply not as funny as the women. If there was another movie with Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza, I would watch again.

As entertaining as the delivery of the script was in some cases, the overall story was cluttered and has an overbearing male storyline for no real reason. I know the whole story is mainly supposed to be about Mike and Dave getting wedding dates since that’s what the title and the forced story says. Made very obvious. However, the supposed side story of the women is what really made the movie and I could have done without the backstory of Mike and Dave. The movie could have just been about Tatiana and Alice. Actually, I would have preferred that much more than what was really presented.

All throughout there were wild spectacles to add to the comedy. I enjoyed this immature extreme slapstick like addition to the movie. On this part, it’ll either make you laugh or annoyed.

Overall, it was an ok comedy that is best when not really thought about and just enjoyed. It could have been better but it wasn’t the worst. It was a great movie on a very sad day for me and I’ll probably watch it again but not one of my top favorites.
